Sunday, November 1
at 4 p.m.
In the midst of pandemic, an All Saints’ Choral Evensong for remembering the departed is offered virtually on Sunday, November 1 at 4:00 in the afternoon.
A Virtual Choral Evensong service will be offered by Saint Andrew’s, via Zoom, in thanksgiving for the lives of the departed and especially for those who have died during these past months. The Virtual Choral Evensong will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 1, and will be preceded from 3:30 to 3:50 PM by a concert of sacred music selections by the Virtual Choir of Saint Andrew’s Church. From 3:50 to 4:00 PM, greetings and cyber fellowship is offered to attendees. Those who wish to attend via Zoom may provide names of departed loved ones to be remembered at the service by sending those names ahead to priest@standrewslambertville.net, or attendees can offer them verbally during the remembrances in the service.
At the 4:00 PM service the Virtual Choir of Saint Andrew’s Church, with our Virtual Orchestra friends, will present the chorale (known as “Jesu, Joy of man’s desiring”) from Cantata 147 by J.S Bach. The Virtual Choir will also offer music by Elizabethan composer William Byrd, and a Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by 19th century composer Charles Villiers Stanford. The service will conclude with remembrances of the departed and with playing of Movement 4 from Johannes Brahms’ Requiem (Ein Deutsches Requiem), sung with full orchestra. This was recorded last November at the All Saints’ Choral Evensong service of 2019, and was directed by Michael T. Kevane, Organist/Choirmaster at Saint Andrew’s. The Virtual Choir and Orchestra continue under the direction of Mr. Kevane.
Choral Evensong is a sung version of Evening Prayer, which is itself a combination of the daily offices of Vespers and Compline. This beautiful service includes sung prayers and responses, psalms set to plainsong or Anglican chant, readings, anthems, hymns, and prayers and blessings for the end of the day.
All are welcome to attend this virtual concert and Evensong service.
